About Bunksnstuff.com’s quality beds, designs, safety & value

The Bunksnstuff Commitment to Quality

It is our desire to provide you with the best in quality and design. At Bunksnstuff.com, we are very careful about the products that we carry and the manufacturers that we deal with. This philosophy seems to work, as our returns to our company are extremely rare.

Hardwood Beds

Unlike cheaper beds that use softer woods such as pine and fir, our wood beds are high quality furniture made from premium hardwoods, such as birch, oak, ash and maple. All of our hardwood beds are solid wood; no particle board is used in any of our bunk beds. Using only premium hardwoods does make a difference in appearance, strength, and durability. In addition, all of our wood beds feature rounded-over edges, and have metal to metal connection between the bed's structural elements. This means that these beds can be disassembled and assembled literally hundreds of times without compromising the integrity of the product.

Metal Beds

There are a number of metal bunk beds available to the consumer, and we have found that there is not only a large range in price, there is also a large range in quality. At Bunksnstuff.com, we knew that if we were to sell metal bunk beds, they too would have to meet our high standards for quality and durability. That is why we only sell metal bunk beds with a 3” metal tubing. Many of the lower cost metal bunk beds are a 2” tubing. We have concerns about the tendency of 2” metal bunk beds to bend or become wobbly over time. Our metal bunks not only utilize the larger tubing, but also have reinforced welds throughout, and an assembly system that allows you to tighten all of the connections many times without sacrificing the integrity of the bed. Our metal bunks also feature a textured powder coat surface that is lead free, non-toxic and virtually chip proof.

Slat Rolls and Bunky Boards

When shopping for bunk beds, you may come across these terms and wonder about the difference. Most of our beds come with a slat roll system, which serves as the mattress foundation. A slat roll consists of a number of boards, usually about one inch wide, that go across the bed to hold up the mattress. Our slat systems contain between 14 and 16 slats. Bunk beds also can use a bunky board. A bunky board is an upholstered board that normally looks like a flat box spring, and serves the same purpose as a slat roll: the mattress support. If any of our beds use a bunky board instead of a slat system, it will be indicated in the product description. Both slat systems and bunky boards are required to meet the ASTM standards for bunk beds, which is to withstand a minimum of 400 pounds of pressure. There is no real advantage of having one or the other; they really serve the same purpose.

Please note: When you buy from Bunksnstuff.com, the mattress foundation is included unless noted in the product description as a separate item.

Safety

At Bunksnstuff.com, safety is one of our most important issues. That is why we only deal with manufacturers who meet or exceed all of the current ASTM and CSPS standards for bunk bed safety.
These standards include the following issues:

  • Guard rails must be placed on both sides of the top bunk, and the back guard rail must go the entire length of the bed
  • Openings in the bunk bed must be small enough (less than 3”) so that a child’s torso cannot pass through, or large enough so that both the child’s torso and head can pass through
  • Bunk beds must be able to accommodate at least 400 pounds of pressure
  • Children under the age of 6 years should not be allowed in the top bunk

For additional information about safety, please contact us at Bunksnstuff.com, or you may also get information from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Their web site is www.cpsc.gov.

Ease of Assembly

It is typical of our products to require at least some assembly. Since most of our products are assembled by the customer, our products are designed with the idea of making assembly as easy as possible. Key structural elements, such as headboards, will arrive pre-assembled. Detailed instructions will be included, along with a complete set of hardware. Most of our beds use a hex wrench for assembly, which is included. Typically the only tool required will be a screwdriver. Most of our bunk beds take about 30 minutes to one hour for assembly, and it is much easier if two people are involved.

Value

The modular components and style of our line permit modification of the furniture to meet the changing needs of the growing child or expanding family. This allows a family to build on its initial furniture investment rather than discarding and replacing furniture as needs change. In addition, buying quality products also brings value, as these are items that can be used for years to come. Combined with an attractive price, this gives Bunksnstuff.com products the sort of value that benefits your family for many years.
